More detail on this person: Robert Howard Ostler, 79, of Bastrop, Texas, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015. A gathering in celebration of his life will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, October 22, at Unity Church, 5501 W US Hwy 290 Service Rd, Austin, TX 78735. (512) 892-3000. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Distinctive Life Cremations & Funerals of Austin. Robert was born Monday, July 13, 1936 to Cecil and Afton (Stephenson) Ostler in Provo, UT. Robert joined the military afer high school, and would eventually become an exceptional pilot. He married the love of his life, Barbara Stephenson in 1958, and togehter they raised five beautiful children. He loved the ocean and the mountains of Hawaii, and was very passionate about taking flight to visit the islands as often as possible. he was a skilled helecopter pilot, and would also fly Sedona, Arizona, or through the Grand Canyon, enjoying the sights and canvas of natures landscapes below him. Once, Robert even flew his Helecopter in Antarctica off a Russian Ice Breaker to scout safe travel routes. He had many adventures in the pilot seat. Robert was a dedicated and devoted family man. He loved his children and was always there when his family needed him. To others, he was a kind friend who will be remembered fondly for his warm smile and caring ways. Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara (Stephenson) Ostler of Bastrop; three sons, Robert Shane Ostler and wife, Rosie, of Las Vegas, Joe Ostler and wife, Nessa, of Seattle, and Drew Ostler of Austin; two daughters, Lisa Ostler of Bastrop, and Libby Farris and husband, Ed, of Austin; many dear grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Moore of Llano; as well as a host of extended family members and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest memorial donations in honor of Robert be made to the Wounded Warriors project. The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the nurses and staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, and all of the Angels (Nurses) on the 5th floor of St David's South Hospital.
