More detail on this person: SHIRLEY: LTC George W. Owens, 92, US Army (retired) died Saturday, September 11, 2021 at UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester. LTC Owens was born in Shiloh, NC, October 27, 1928, a son of Walter and Rovena (Holmes) Owens and has resided in Shirley for over 50 years. When serving in the armed forces he resided throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Korea and Vietnam. LTC Owens entered the United State Army as a Private in April 1947 serving for nearly 23 years retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in March 1970. During his service to our country he received many meritorious medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with 21 Oak Leaf Cluster, Korean Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. After retiring from the armed forces he worked for Sears and Roebuck Company for twenty years. He attended the First Baptist Church in Leominster He leaves his wife, Maria (Dovidio) Iacobone Owens; his son and daughter in law, Dana and Donna Owens of Westford; his nephew, Wayne Mahler of Wilmington IL; a brother, James Owens of Kemp, TX; three grandsons, Christopher Owens, Kyle Owens and his wife Melissa, Brendan Owens; three great grandchildren, Christopher Owens Jr, Brianna Kelley, and Leah M Owens; a stepdaughter, Patricia Frazier of Leominster; two stepsons, Anthony Iacobone, Jr., and his wife, Lacie, of Knightdale, NC, Joseph M. Iacobone of Leominster; seven step grandchildren, Milla of Leominster and Worcester , Devlin, Erica, Kiernan all of Leominster, Anthony III, Sophie and Samuel all of Knightdale, NC. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine E. (Tobin) Owens who died in 2005. He was the brother of the late Nellie M. Coppersmith, Calvin H. Owens, Thomas N. Owens and William E. Owens. LTC Owens' funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, 9/17 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, (Rte 2A) Ayer. Interment with will full military honors will follow at Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon.
