Oakley, aged 75, passed away suddenly from Multiple Myeloma complications on November 26, 2021. He was a resident of Cadiz, KY. Don was born on October 20, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan and was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Paul who served as a crew chief in Vietnam. Prior to his tour as a helicopter pilot, he served an infantry tour with the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. Don was also a recipient of the Bronze Star and 14 Air Medals. Don was a retired helicopter pilot for Petroleum Helicopters Inc., a life member of the VHPA, a member of VFW Post 7890 in Cadiz, the First Cavalry Association, D Company 1/12th Association, and a member of the Cadiz Christian Church. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Robin Shutt Oakley, sons Bryan Oakley of Lexington, KY and Collin Oakley (Casey) of Milpitas, CA, daughter Brietta Oakley Illgen (David) of New Orleans, LA, and brother Owen Timothy Oakley of Clarkston, MI.
