O'Grady ,Jr., 85, of Boncarbo, CO died Apr. 1, 2020 peacefully at e VA hospital in Walsenburg, CO alter a long battle with the effects of Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. George was born in New York City, NY on Nov. 18, I 934 to Dr. George and Helen O'Grady. George is survived by his wife Betty, sons George O'Grady Ill and Kevin 'Grady (Linda),daughter Sheila Nicholson (Tom), stepdaughters Carola Scharlach (John) and Debi Wilson,and stepson Michael Wilson. George was the most highly decorated member of the West Point Class of 1957 with 3 Silver Stars,the Legion of Merit,4 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 2 Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, 64 Air Medals,Air Medal with "V" device and the Presidential Unit Citation among his awards and decorations. George was recognized by the U.S.Army Aviation Hall of Fame in 2001 for the development of the attack helicopter and its weaponry. He was honored by the Colorado Senate on Oct 4, 2019 and was presented a commendation citing his leadership ,years of service and commitment. George and Betty were married on Dec. 22, 1991 and lived on their ranch in SaintJ o,TX before moving to their ranch in Boncarbo,CO in 2000. There they raised Arabian horses, award-winning Llamas, Collies and Mini Austrialian Shepherds. George always had a smile and a story to tell. He will be missed by all. There will be an immediate burial at Pilkes Peak National Cemetery on Apr 7, 2020 with Full Military Honors Ceremony at a later date. George Ogrady, commander of B Troop, 1/9th Calvary, 1969, Vietnam, passed away in his sleep last night after years of suffering from the affects Agent Orange. LTC O'Grady is recognized in the U.S. Army Hall of Fame for his contributions to Army aviation and the advancement of the Attack Helicopter and its weaponry. He was an outstanding cobra pilot who flew as my cover on most of my missions and kept me and my crew alive during many insane missions. He was an exceptional warrior, awarded 3 Silver stars and the distinguished flying Cross during his two tours in Vietnam. He suffered from a disease that manifested from his days on the battlefield have ended. Peace at last. Thank you for your professional mentioning in time of war, and the friendship throughout the last 50 years.
