"He had a yard full of day lilies, and he created his own hybrids," said Mr. O'Daniel's wife of 18 years, Kathy Morris O'Daniel. "Anybody who came in the yard, he gave them a day lily." Mr. O'Daniel, 59, of Burlington, died of cancer Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a co-owner of Florence Nursery & Floral Shop. Mr. O'Daniel was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. During the Vietnam War, he was a helicopter pilot. "He was shot down twice, and he was rescued twice," said his wife. At the floral shop, Mr. O'Daniel grew many of the plants and flowers that were sold to the public. He also was the co-owner of race horses that ran at Turfway Park and River Downs. Mr. O'Daniel had a quiet personality. "He was a good family man, and he enjoyed staying at home," said his wife. "He was very kind. He was a great father and great husband. He was a good man who will be missed." Other survivors include his father, Thomas O'Daniel of Florence; his mother, Elizabeth Edelmeyer O'Daniel of Florence; a son, Sean O'Daniel of Burlington; daughters, Shannon M. O'Daniel and Kelsey O'Daniel, both of Burlington; sisters, Kathy Bolte of Florence, Barb Brown and Shelly Lenhof, both of Burlington; brothers, Rick O'Daniel of Florence, Jim O'Daniel of Richwood, John O'Daniel of Chicago and Paul O'Daniel of Burlington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Funeral services will be at the church at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery in Latonia. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky., 41075, or the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, 529 S. Jackson St., Louisville, Ky., 40202.
