More detail on this person: Maj. James E. Oliver Sr. Maj. James E. Oliver Sr., 71, of Nashville, a retired officer in the United States Air Force and a native of Union City, died March 29, 2009, after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's. A memorial service is planned for 7 pm Thursday at Donelson Church of Christ at 2706 Old Lebanon Pike in Nashville, with Rob McRay officiating. Burial will be Friday at 10 am at Veterans Cemetery in Pegram. Friends may call at the church 5-7 pm Thursday. Woodbine Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorials be made to Guardian Hospice, 800 Crescent Centre Drive, Three Corporate Center, Suite 550, Franklin, TN 37067. He was the son of the late Elwyn Oliver and the late Rubye Oliver Armstrong and was a graduate of the University of Maryland. He served 20 years in the USAF, accumulating more than 11,000 hours in fixed-wing and helicopter aircraft. He served in Vietnam as rescue crew commander, flying Jolly Green Giant helicopters. At the time of his retirement in 1977, he was liaison officer for the Civil Air Patrol to the Air Force for the State of Tennessee. After retirement, he worked as an FAA training specialist for 21 years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mariloyce (Wilson) Oliver; his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and David Henry of Knoxville; his son and daughter-in-law, James E. Oliver Jr. and Bianca Oliver of San Jose, Calif; and two granddaughters, Taylor Henry and Chase Henry. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret May; and his brother, Elwyn Oliver Jr.
