Robert Terrence Oliver, 67, died on Monday, May 10, 2004, at his home following a brief battle with cancer. Col. Oliver was born in Indianapolis. Col. Oliver was retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of service, including two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and the Outer Banks Kiwanis Club. Col. Oliver was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Oliver of Pebble Beach, Calif., and the late Lucille Westerfield Oliver, and the husband of Caroline Campbell Oliver of Southern Shores. Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, Scott and Karren Oliver of Linden, Va., Todd Oliver and Craig Vicens of Seattle, David and Lisa Oliver of Juneau, Alaska, Mark and Candy Johnson of Fort Belvoir, Va., and Jay and Stephanie McNamara of Great Bridge, Va.; one sister, JoAnne Minnick of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kalla, Brian, Derek, Margot and A.J.; one great-grandson, Jayce; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Kay Oliver. A funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, with Father Joseph Klaus officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Dare County Hospice, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954, the Outer Banks Kiwanis Club #10939 Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1118, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948, or the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, P.O. Box 510, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949.
