Olson, Sr, USAF Retired, age 72, of Wild Rose, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, June 18, 2004 at Appleton Medical Center, Appleton, Wisconsin. Byron was born in Wyocena, Wisconsin on January 13, 1932, he was the son of the late Rev. Dr. L. E. and Florence (Shafer) Olson. He married Ruth Ann Neesvig in 1953. She preceded him in death in March of 1972. On December 24, 1973 he married Genelle (Kay) Olson in Oak Park, Illinois. Byron served in the United States Air Force as a tanker pilot for 21 years and was Chief of Safety for the Strategic Air Command. He was a Waushara County Board Supervisor, served on the Board of Directors for the Waushara County Electric Co-op, was Bible study leader for the Community Christian Fellowship, was active in the Gideons, Wild Rose Lions and the American Legion, a faithful volunteer at the Patterson Memorial Library in Wild Rose, and President of the Winnefox Library System. He enjoyed music; especially singing, reading, gardening, golfing, an avid Green Bay Packer and New York Yankee fan and was proud to be a Democrat. He is survived by his wife: Genelle Olson, Wild Rose; Daughters: Randene Olson, Wild Rose and Linda Olson, Verona; son: Byron (Friend: Susan) Olson, Jr., Geneva, Illinois; Grandchildren: Matthew (Rachel) Olson, Byron Olson, III and Glorianna Olson, Illinois; sister: Doris (Gary) Bright, Tempe, Arizona, four step-children; Neices and Nephews also survive. Byron was preceded in death by a sister: Ila (Roger) Witmer and brother: Dr. James C. Olson; Neice: Carla Matchler. The Funeral Service will be held at Wild Rose United Methodist Church, Wild Rose, Wisconsin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday June 22, with Reverends William Kermott and Dr. James Rivers officiating. Interment will be in the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held Monday 4 - 8 p.m. at Holly Funeral Home, Wild Rose. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Patterson Memorial Library in Wild Rose.
