Postles -- passed away at home surrounded by his family January 20, 2005. He was 64 years old. He was a native of Frederica, DE and son of Annabel Postles and the late Clarence Postles of Delaware. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Peggy and their two sons, Lewis II and Thomas; two grandchildren, Lewis III and Krislynn; and many other relatives and friends. LTC Postles retired from the Alabama Army National Guard after 33 years of service. Once returning from Vietnam, he attended Helicopter Flight Instructor Training at Ft. Rucker, AL where he instructed Rotary Wing Aircraft until his discharge in February 1967. He applied for and was commissioned a second lieutenant in September 1967. He then applied for and was selected as a full time flight instructor (GS-12) with the Alabama National Guard in April 1972 in Montgomery, AL where he instructed students in various rotary and fixed wing aircraft until March 1988. He was rated in Rotary Wing Aircraft, OH23, OH13, TH13, CH34, OH6 and the UHI, Fixed Wing U3, U8 and the T42, all of which have been retired. In March 1988, LTC Postles was appointed Army Aviation Facility Commander in Mobile by The Adjutant General and promoted to G-M 13 where he served as Supervisory Aircraft Pilot and was then assigned to Headquarters Starc, Montgomery, AL, as Airfield Commander until his retirement. LTC Postles has a clean aviation accident, recorded and logged 10,000 flying hours. He was awarded 16 medals including the Soldiers Medal and the Air Medal with 22 oakleaf clusters. He also had 3 unit citations awarded his unit of assignment, the 114th Aviation Company while serving in Vietnam. Graveside services and interment will be Saturday, January 22, 2005 at 12:00 Noon in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5 PM to 8 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
