More detail on this person: Oscar Nolan Or Pete Peterson, 69 Obituaries Fayetteville Observer, The (NC) - Thursday, January 19, 2012 FAYETTEVILLE - Oscar Nolan "Pete" Peterson, 69, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. He was born in Minot, N.D., on May 1, 1942. He served as chief warrant officer in the U.S. Army. He retired as a civilian flight commander, U.S. Army Helicopter Training Center in Fort Rucker, Ala. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served as a pilot of CH-47 and UH-1H helicopters. He was a member of the Vietnam Helicopters Pilot Association. Pete was a former secretary of the Greater Fort Rucker Bowling Association and director of an Alabama state bowling association. He was member of the Greater Fort Rucker Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Professional Bowlers Association and had seven sanctioned 300 games. He is survived by his loving wife of 391/2years, Lela; a son Timothy Scott Peterson and wife Donna of Brandon, Miss.: his mother, Margaret Peterson of Shingle Springs, Calif.; his brother, Daniel and wife Linda Kay Peterson of Federal Way, Wash.; two sisters, Linda Ray Dimmit of Shingle Springs, Calif., and Darlene Garrett of Olympia, Wash.; a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Johnson and husband DeWitt of Fayetteville; a brother-in-law, Billy Lamar and wife Debra Smith of Northport, Ala.; a sister in-law, Louise Smith and family of Wade; a sister in-law, Anita Mabry and family of Lillington; 11 nieces and nephews; and 18 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Nels Peterson; his maternal grandparents, Oscar and Gina Munson; and his paternal grandparents, Halvor and Anna Peterson. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center, 2431 Legion Road, Fayetteville, NC, 28306, 910-429-7000; or the John Griffin Middle School Library, 5551 Fisher Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304, 910-424-7678. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville from 2 to 4 p.m. A visitation will follow the memorial service and at other times at the home of DeWitt and MaryAnn Johnson.
