From: Ross Rainwater, C-1/9, 1st Air Cav, '70-71
Paul C Petersen, Panther 21, April '70-April '71,
suffered a massive heart attack while playing golf
and passed away Thursday October 19. He was 60.
Paul was a member of Flight Class 69-42 and
served with the 361st ACE/AWC "Pink Panthers" in
Vietnam as a Cobra pilot. His awards and
decorations include the DFC w Cluster, the Air
Medal for Valor, numerous awards of the Air Medal
for combat flight, the Bronze Star, the Vietnamese
Cross of Gallantry and many others. Paul spent 33
years on active duty and in the Tennessee National
Guard and retired as a lieutenant Colonel. He was
residing in Clarksville Tennessee at the time of
his death.
Paul and Jan surprised his fellow Panthers by
registering at the last minute and attending the
VHPA Annual Reunion in DC this past July. Due to
his late decision to join us, his sleeping room
was directly next to the Stickitt Inn, the Panther
Party Suite. This was very convenient if you
wanted to party but very inconvenient if you
wanted to sleep. He and Jan had a great time and
he was planning to attend the upcoming Phoenix
Reunion.
Paul is survived by his wife, Jan, two sons, Craig
and Meils, brother Karl, sisters Alice and Nancy,
numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and
grand nephews.
