Captain Putek was born in Chicago, Illinois and he was a retired airline pilot from Piedmont Airlines and US Airways. He was a decorated Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War, where he received the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster: Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver and one Bronze Service Star, Army Aviator Badge: Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Captain Putek is survived by his wife, Tricia Putek; sister, Dolores (Stanley) Dziadus of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Putek of Woolrich, Pennsylvania, and his nieces and nephews: Hank Putek, Jr., Gwen Echols, Joanne Williams, Janet Putek and Jon Putek. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Frances Putek, and his brother, Henry W. Putek Sr., Captain, USN. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Association of Vietnam Veterans of America, INC or (AVVA), 8719 Colesville Road, Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD 20910 or online at avva.org/donate.html The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Duluth Chapel, (770) 476-2535. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Johns Creek, Georgia, with Fr. Paul Flood serving as the celebrant. Interment will be at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.
