More detail on this person: Luther Lee Payton Jr. "Iggy" was survived by his wife Ruth Ann, daughters; Leigh Ann and Kelli, brother; Lavon, grandchildren; Payton and Hannah, and son-in-law; Scott. Lee was a loving father, brother and spouse who loved his church and helping others. Lt. Colonel Payton, served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 24 years as a helicopter pilot. Lee flew more than 1240 combat hours in Vietnam, with a total of over 5800 flying hours. He was awarded 5 distinguished Flying Crosses, 2 single Mission Air medals, 62 Air medals and a Bronze Star with combat "V". After the military, Lee worked for St. Johns River Water Management District for 17 years as the Director Administration Department and Employee Relations. Lee also worked on the General Commission on Chaplains and Armed Forces Personnel. He was the Chapel Volunteer of the year from 1975-1976. A funeral service will be 10 AM Thursday, April 21, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Orange Park, 1140 Kingsley Ave Orange Park, FL with 1 hour prior visitation. Interment will be 2 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL. Please line up in lane #1 by 1:30 PM. Arrangements by HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Blanding Blvd Orange Park.
