He met his beloved bride Anne Horn at the Azalea Bar and Grill in Pensacola, FL, during cadet school in 1949. After his initial enlistment, he joined the NAVCAD program, became a pilot, and received his wings in 1950. He was proud of his Naval career and his adventures including searching 11+ hours for Flight 19 in the Bermuda Triangle, his blessing by Pope Pius XII, ditching his plane and being rescued, flying 56 different types of aircraft (props/jets/helicopters), reaching an altitude of 50,000' and speed of Mach 1.1. In addition, he was the first CO of HC-7, XO of the USS New Orleans, XO of NASIB, a founder of the Navy Helicopter Association Historical Society (NHA-HS), and Life Member of the Naval Helicopter Association (NHA). After retirement in 1975, he formed the NHHS (Naval Helicopter Historical Society), and was instrumental in fundraising for the USS Midway's Helicopter Exhibit. Lloyd was preceded in death by his bride of 54 years, Anne Horn Parthemer in 2004, and is survived by all five of their children, Lyle (Jan), George David, Chris, Alyson Gonzalez (Rene), and Sam (Jenn).
