Pedersen, 70, passed away suddenly on May 6,
2013. Bud was born on February 6, 1943 in Great
Falls, Montana to Lloyd and Violet Pedersen.
Bud graduated from Choteau High School, Choteau,
Montana in 1961. He received a BA in English and
Social Science in 1965, and later a Master's in
Education in 1974 from Montana State University.
He spent 25 years in the military serving first in
Vietnam as a Helicopter Aviator in the 7/17 Air
Calvary Squadron. He was awarded the
Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star
medals. In 1970, he began working in the Army
Aviation School in Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was
granted a leave of absence to complete his
Master's; upon completion he was transferred to
Vicenza, Italy, where he commanded two Army air
defense missile units. In 1978, he was transferred
to Troop C, _ Air Cavalry Squadron, Schofield
Barracks, HI, as officer for air (flight) and
ground training (combat aviation unit).
In 1980, Major Pedersen was assigned to Boise
and served as Chair of Boise State University's
Military Science Department. In 1983, he was
Adjutant for 1st Brigade, 24th Infantry Division,
Fort Stewart, Georgia and retired from military
service in 1988.
He began teaching part-time in the English
Department at Boise State University where he
taught for 25 years at the college level. He
retired in 2012. Bud loved teaching and working
with students. He was generous, upbeat, funny and
incredibly kind.
Bud is survived by his sister, Linda and her
husband Danny Montoya; stepmother, Millie
Pedersen; and stepbrothers, Mike (Betty) Charlton,
Dave Charlton, and John (Linda) Charlton.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be
held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at
the Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah. In lieu
of flowers, please consider the following: a
