More detail on this person: Biography: Retired after 24 years in US Army as CW4. Served two tours in Vietnam with 33rd Transportation Company (CH-21) and 118th Aviation Company in 1962-63. Also served in S. Korea, Aleutin Islands and South America.

Bryson Ernest Penny, 80, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Collinsville Healthcare Center. Surviors include his wife, Kay Eseyo Penny; a daughter, Sonia Douglas (Williams) of Gainesville, FL; a son, Barry Penny (Kay), of Huntsville; three sisters, Grace Jennings, of Knighten s Crossroads, Jane Simmons and Esther Sherman, both of Roy Webb; a brother, Basil Penny of Piedmont, AL; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and his caregiver, Nancy Garmon. Pallbearers will be Brandon Penny, Brendon Penny, Bradley Penny, Dallas Williams, Danny Suggs, Bryan Winters and Trent Penny.

Mr. Penny was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Cordie Penny, three sisters and three brothers. Mr. Penny served in the US Army for 24 years. His service included the 82nd Airborne and the US Army Aviation as a helicopter pilot. He served two tours in Vietnam, one with the 118th Aviation Company where he ferried troops into and out of combat zones. He also served in South Korea, the Aleutian Islands and Central America. Mr. Penny retired from the US Army in 1972 as a CWO-4. After retiring from the military he was flight director for Ace Aviation at Ft. Rucker, AL where he trained helicopter pilots for the US Army, US Air Force and several foreign countries. He was a member of the Sardis Hill Baptist Church and was a Mason.

Funeral service for Bryson Ernest Penny will be Friday June 12, 2009, 1 PM at Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, Burial will follow at Nances Creek Cemetery.
