(Chet) Patraitis, 64, formerly of Utica, and currently of Fair Oaks, CA, died on March 9, 2005 with his family at his side. He was born in Utica on November 14, 1940, the son of the late Chester and Genevieve Dembski Patraitis, and attended local schools. Chet attended Holy Cross College, where he was enrolled with the ROTC and graduated with honors with the rank of 2nd Lt. After graduation he relocated to Fair Oaks, CA, and entered the Marine Corps where he served his country in Vietnam. Following his tour in Vietnam, Chet was employed with McClellan AFB until his retirement in 1998. On November 24, 1978 he married Lynette Smith and settled in California. Chet was active with the USMC Veterans and will always be remembered for his love of life and living it to the fullest. To know Chet was to love him, his presence would brighten anyone's day; he was a loving and caring man who gave of himself unselfishly to anyone who needed his help. He leaves three daughters, Laurie Carrol of Boston, Terri Smith of Fair Oaks, CA, and Kelly and her husband, Steven Santucci of Fair Oaks, CA; a sister, Jeanette and her husband, Harold Gates of West Winfield; three grandchildren, Shane, Ashlyn and Chase Santucci; two special nephews, Kenneth and Steven Gates of West Winfield; and special friends, Bill and Marilyn Urban, Joe and Helen Sobocinski, all of New York Mills, and Jim Musa, Pete Hartman and Sterling Kunkle, all of Utica. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass, which will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Utica. Local arrangements are with the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 1156 Lincoln Avenue, Utica. Memorial contributions in Chester's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available at the church.
