More detail on this person: Wallowa County Chieftain (Enterprise, OR) - Thursday, February 21, 2008 Bob Patterson, 67, of Wallowa Lake died Feb. 12 at the VA Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash. Bob was born in Baker on Feb. 16,1940 to Franklin W. (Bill) and Elizabeth Bokop Patterson. Bob's grandfather, the late Dr. Carl G. Patterson, bought lakefront property and cabin on Wallowa Lake (now the end of Edgewater Drive) in 1918, and his family lived at the cabin those summers while Dr Patterson practiced medicine in Baker. Bob attended public school in Baker, graduating in 1958, and completing his B.S. degree at Eastern Oregon University in 1962. He married Ann Jennings (Raybum) of Joseph in 1961-1978 raising two children: Kristan and Steven. He joined the U. S. Air Force, enrolled in Officer Candidate School, obtained his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and trained as a Weapons Control Officer (radar tracking) at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix. After completing flight school, he flew "Super Connie's" C-121 radar tracking aircraft over View Nam in the early stage of the war. Ultimately, he became proficient in all aircraft (fixed wing and helicopter) during his 14 year air force career. He then was employed by a charter airlines company flying Boeing 707's in Europe and Asia. Bob finally "settled down" with America West Airlines in 2000, where he finished his flying career qualified as a captain of both the Boeing 757 and the Airbus 320. After reaching mandatory retirement age at 60, he continued assisting America West on the ground as an instructor pilot on the Airbus training simulator. Bob is survived by wife of 13 years, Marvel, of Wallowa Lake; daughter Kristan Ann Fowler-Patterson of Walla Walla, Wash.; son Steven Carl Patterson of Oregon City; stepdaughter Chanelle Kostewa of Gilbert, Ariz.; stepson Connon Estrella of Chandler, Ariz.; brother John Patterson of Walla Walla, Wash.; sister Charlotte (Char) Williams of Joseph; two granddaughters; and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin W. "Bill" Patterson and Elizabeth Patterson. Memorial services will be held Feb. 22,2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints (LDS) in Enterprise. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 7325 W. Deschutes Ave., Ste A, Kennewick WA. 99336, to the Wallowa County Memorial Hospital, or to a charity of one's choice.
