More detail on this person: JACK D. PEAK JACK D. PEAK, age 81, of Marion, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Marion General Hospital after a 7 year battle with lung cancer. Jack was born on January 18, 1932, in Marion, the son of the late Harold L. and Hilda C. (Click) Peak. Jack graduated from Harding High School. On September 21, 1955, Jack was united in marriage to June R. Lundrigan in Marion; together they have shared nearly 58 years of married life together. Jack spent his career serving with honor and pride in the United States Air Force, obtaining the rank as Major and retired from the Air Force on August 1, 1970. During his time in the Air Force, Jack was stationed and lived all over the world, including Aviano, Italy; Misawa, Japan; Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam; Tuscan, Arizona; Victorville, California and Moses Lake, Washington. During his time defending the United States, Jack was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star and several Air Medals. After his time in the military, Jack worked for the City of Marion in several capacities. He worked as a bailiff for the court system, city tax department and he drove a bus for the city transit system. His best days driving bus were the days he drove around the pre-school children. Jack was very active with civic organizations, donating his time and talents. He was a proud member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Marion, serving as a deacon and often times reading scriptures on Sunday mornings. He was a member of the Lions Club, the VFW Post #7201 and the American Legion Post #1. His favorite pastimes included boating; he boated through all of the canals on Lake Erie and made it up to Thunder Bay. He also enjoyed building and flying model U controlled airplanes. If something was broken, you could bet that Jack would find a way to fix whatever it was and would tinker until the problem was solved. At the end of a long day, you could find Jack enjoying a martini during Happy Hour. Jack's pride and joy, through it all, has always been his adoring family. He was a devoted husband, proud father and doting grandfather. His legacy of love, commitment and service will live on through his family for generations to come. Jack is survived by his devoted wife, June R. Peak; his beloved children: Cynthia Marie (Alan) Harris and Ret. Lt. Col. John Dale Peak, PhD; his loving grandchildren Michael and Ryan Harris, Cameron and Kelsey Peak; his brothers: Robert L. "Bob" (Mary "Rosey") Peak, Harold Richard (Linda) Peak, William "Bill" (Candy) Peak and Gene (Linda) Peak. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Funeral services will be Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 930 Harding Memorial Pkwy, Marion at 11 a.m. with Pastor Craig Lewis officiating, burial will be in Marion Cemetery.
