More detail on this person: Colonel Robert Morris Petersen Robert Morris Petersen Olympian, The (WA) - Wednesday, September 19, 2007 Olympia WA United States Colonel Robert Morris Petersen (Ret.), a ten year resident of Olympia, passed away on September 16, 2007 at St. Peters Hospital surrounded by his loving children. Dad was preceded in death by his dear wife of 49 years, Eleanor. Dad is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Peggy of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Wayne Schnell of Sacramento, California; son and daughter-in-law, Robert, Jr. and April of Olympia; and son, Richard of Lodi, California; grandchildren, Anaise Cisson and her husband Tony, Paul Petersen, Jr. and his wife Angie, Jessica Petersen, and Ashley Petersen; great grandchildren, Emily Cisson, Virginia Cisson, Zoe Petersen, Maggie Cisson, and Aiden Petersen. Dad was born on April 22, 1927 to Otto and Sigrid Petersen in Los Angeles, California. He has two loving surviving sisters, Carolyn Mormann and Edna Baker, of Sacramento, California. In 1945 Dad enlisted in the Navy he served his country in World War II as a Higgins Boat operator in the Pacific Theater. Following World War II he was stationed in San Francisco, California where he met his soul mate Eleanor, they were married on October 26, 1953. Dad graduated from Oregon State University in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree, then re-enlisted as an Office in the United States Army Air Corp. He served his country as an Instructor Helicopter Pilot. While in the Korean and Vietnam wars he served as a Medivac Pilot. Finally retiring as a Colonel in 1972. He had a second career with the California Department of Transportation before retiring in the Northwest. Dad loved his family unconditionally and we all deeply loved him for his generous spirit, caring, and loving support. He was an outstanding man and role model. His passing leaves a void in our family that will never be replaced, and he will always be cherished. A public viewing will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 5930 Mullen Road SE, on September 21, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Followed by a private graveside service at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. In Lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to, The Sturge-Weber Foundation, P.O. Box 418, Mount Freedom, NJ 07970-0418.
