He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his wife off 55 years, Virginia Pfeffer Powell; their children, Michael Powell and his wife Shirley Belangia Powell, of New Bern, Teresa Powell Roy and her husband, Stephen Roy, of Newport, Timothy Powell and his fiancee, Angela Ramsey, of Staunton, Va., and Karen Powell Ashe and her husband, Matthew Ashe Jr., of Richmond, Vt.; nine grandchildren, Ronald Brock, Sarah Pow-ell Keown, Carrolyn Powell, Alexander Roy, Matthew Ashe III, Tilar Roy, Marnee' Powell, An-drew Ashe, and Mason Powell; three great-grandchildren, Marissa Morrison, Zachary Bosnick and Katia Brock; one sister, Dorothy Powell Bradshaw and her husband, the Rev. Leonard Brad-shaw of Madisonville, Ky.; and one brother-in-law, Frank Pfeffer and his wife, Lavanda Kerly Pfeffer, of Winfield, Mo. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alice Helton Powell and Carl Powell; a brother, Carl J.L. Powell; and granddaughter, Amber Powell. Clayton was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He graduated from Poplar Bluff High School and entered the U.S. Marine Corps on Oct. 23, 1953. During his career in the Marine Corps, he held every enlisted rank and attained the rank of Captain as an LDO. When he retired from the Marine Corps in June of 1976, he was Avionics Officer for M.A.G. 14. After retiring for the Marine Corps, he taught electrical, refrigeration and heating at Carteret Community College. He retired from there in 1994. The funeral Mass of Resurrection, with Father Gregory Spencer, will be 11 a.m. Saturday morn-ing, at Annunciation Catholic Church, Main Street, Havelock, followed by interment with full military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, 3005 Country Club Road, New Bern. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Annunciation Catholic Church, P.O. Box 720, Havelock, NC 28532. Arrangements are by Woodbridge Funeral Home of Havelock.
