PROCTOR Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The (GA) - Sunday, November 9, 2003 William David Proctor, Colonel, U.S. retired, died November 6, 2003. He was born in Atlanta, GA on June 25, 1924. Upon graduation from Decatur Boys High School in 1942, he immediately volunteered for enlistment in the U.S. Army. He graduated from the Infantry Officers Candidate School in 1943 and served in Italy in during WWII. He later served in Japan, Korea, Okinawa and Vietnam. He received his MBA from Georgia State University, where he was a member of the Blue Key Honor Society. He was inducted into the Infantry Officers Candidate School Hall of Fame. He was a Master Mason. Among his military awards were the Combat Infantry Badge, the Master Army Aviator Badge, the Legion of Merit (5 awards), the dinstinguished Flying Cross, Air Medals, Bronz Star, Army Commendation Medals and numerous campaign and service medals. He retired from the Army while serving as the Aviation Officer Headquarters Force Command in 1973. He later served in Georgia State Government, where he was a Divison Director in the Department of Administrative Services. Colonel Proctor was a member of Dunwoody United Methodist Church. He was a founding member of the Board of Aldersgate Home & Camp Collinswood, a United Methodist Agency for the Mentally Challenge. He is survived by his wife, Annie Laurie Summers Proctor, 2 sons, Robert Byron and Daniel Norman and wife Kathy, a son, William David Jr. preceded him in death. He also is survived by 2 brothers, Norman Proctor and Rev. Donald Proctor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DeKalb Mental Retardation Auxiliary Inc., 2600 Osborne Rd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. Funeral Services will be held at Dunwoody United Methodist on Monday, November 10, 2003 at 2 PM, with Dr. Wiley Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends at 1 PM.
