More detail on this person: PACELLI, Vincent A., Lieutenant Colonel USA (Ret.), 84, of Chesterfield, our beloved father and friend, passed away peacefully on Father's Day, June 19, 2016. He was born in Auburn, N.Y., July 11, 1932, to the late Carmen and Rose Pacelli. He was predeceased by his sister, Angela Valdespino, and is survived by his sister Joanne Schattinger (Jack); his beloved former wife and best friend, Erika Pacelli; children, Vincent C. Pacelli (Ruth), Joseph A. Pacelli (Daryl), Christine Pacelli Powell and Jim Powell, Lisa Pacelli Yeargain and Jerry Yeargain; Michael L. Pacelli (Jackie); grandchildren, Anthony Pacelli (Courtney), Anna Bell (Billy), Daniel and Dominic Pacelli, Kyle Pacelli, Caitlin and Kevin Powell, Reina and Reece Yeargain, Taylor and Jacob Pacelli; great-granddaughter, Clara Pacelli; and many nieces and nephews. He graduated in 1954 from Syracuse University as a 2nd Lt. in the ROTC program, with a B.S. in microbiology, after which he entered the U.S. Army. He earned a master's degree in education from the University of Southern California, and after 25 years of service retired in 1979 as a Lt. Colonel and Master Aviator, having flown both fixed wing and rotary aircraft. He was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star (First Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge, among many other awards. He was a loving, brilliant, inspiring, witty and compassionate man whose family always came first and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial mass will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church, where he was a longtime member, on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. (4400 Beulah Rd., Richmond, Va. 23234). In lieu of flowers, donations in Vince's memory may be made to ChildFund, P.O. Box 26507, Richmond, Va. 23261. Inurnment, with full military honors, will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
