More detail on this person: Marion Neal Ray was born in North Littlerock, Arkansas to parents Fred and Mary Ray. He was a gifted student and discovered early on his passion for mathematics and physics. Marion attended Scipio A. Jones High School, graduating from high school before the age of 16. He attended Tuskegee Institute and Northeastern University studying mechanical engineering. In 1961, he was drafted into the United States Army, eventually becoming a skilled combat helicopter pilot, retiring with the rank of Major. Serving in Vietnam, he earned several distinctions, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, 43 Air Medals, a Bronze and a Silver Star. He leaves to mourn his wife of 30 years, Helen Ray, five children, three siblings, and a host of family and friends.
