Rawls, Sr., 66, of Morehead City, founder of Truckers Toy Store in Morehead City, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2006, at home surrounded by family. Born October 26, 1940 in Williamston, NC, to the late Jesse and Betty Rawls, he was raised in Williamston and Roper, NC, and attended Roper High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1958 and served in the Infantry and Scout Dog Platoon. His first tour in Vietnam and second tour was as an Army Helicopter pilot. He retired as a highly decorated Army Aviator with 22 years of dedicated service. Upon retiring, he founded Truckers Toy Store in Richmond, VA and expanded the company to Morehead City, Jacksonville, and Wilson, NC. He retired in 2000. The memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at Munden Funeral Home and the family home at 101 Core Drive West, Morehead City, NC. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Morehead City; a son, Jesse Rawls, Jr. of Richmond, VA; daughters, Ginger Glover of Morehead City, Michelle Hicks of Angier, and Lynda Rawls of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Chris and Ashley Glover of Wilson, Philip Hicks, Anthony Rawls, and Skylar Maiden of Richmond, VA, and Jacob Yates of Angier; a brother, Steve Rawls of Williamston; and beloved dog, Woody. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Michael Rawls. Flowers are welcomed or memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Carteret County, P.O. Box 1619, Morehead City, NC 28557.
