More detail on this person: James Wells Rodgers Jr., a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away July 12th, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. The son of James Rodgers Sr and Quindora Davis, Jim was born and raised in Huntington, WV. He graduated with a BS in Chemistry from Marshall University and remained a loyal supporter of the Thundering Herd. While attending Marshall, Jim enlisted in ROTC where he served as rifle commander. Upon graduation, and at the age of 23, Jim Rodgers enlisted in the US Army. He valued this service highly and left active duty the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served honorably in Vietnam while serving as Aeromedical Evacuation pilot. His active-duty career included: 14th AC R West Germany Fulda & Bad Hersfeld till 1965; 68th AHC Ft Benning GA. till May 1966 Vung Tau Republic of Vietnam; National Guard Commander 1140th Trans Co, (ADS) Winder, GA Jim's civilian career began in 1966 with Union Carbide which brought him to Atlanta, GA and Danbury Village where he grew his family and made many lifelong friends. He moved to Suwanee in 1987 where he enjoyed gardening and the abundant wildlife. His career in Chemistry allowed him to patent several products, created his own company - Attman ("anything that makes a nickel"), and continued working in the chemical industry until retirement at the age of 77. James W Rodgers, Jr is preceded in death by his father, Jim Rodgers Sr, mother Quindora Davis; sister Janet Hillman and brother Frank Davis. He is survived by his wife Susan Grant Rodgers, and his three children: Leah Brecke (Chris), Rick Rodgers (Cindy), Julia Rodgers, his stepdaughter Tabetha Tucker (Pat); three grandchildren Tyler Brecke, Rachel Brecke, Hannah Brecke; step-grandchild Courtney Busha Lopez. His sister Julia Ann Koehler. Niece and nephews Shawn Dunlap, Dana Dunlap, Danny Dunlap, Gabe Davis, Cara Davis and Michael Davis. His loved ones will remember his laughter, great storytelling, love of song, and generous support. The family will receive guests Saturday July 22nd 4 -7 PM. A service honoring the life of Jim Rodgers will be held Sunday July 23nd 2:00 PM Both events to be held at Wages & Sons, Gwinnett Chapel located at: 1031 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA 30046. Burial & Graveside Military Honors Gwinnett Memorial Park 925 Lawrenceville, GA to follow.
