More detail on this person: Maj Richard E Rice, 69 OBITUARIES CHARLOTTE Fern C. Church Charlotte Sun (Port Charlotte, FL) - Monday, April 10, 2006 Ret. U.S. Army Maj. Richard E. Rice, 69, of Gainesville, Fla., died Wednesday, April 05, 2006. He was born in Perry, N.Y. Major Rice served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot serving three tours in Vietnam and he also served in Korea. He received numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star, Distinguished Service medal, Army Aviator badge, National Defense Service medal and Vietnam Service medal. Major Rice was a member of Kanapaha Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his daughter, JoAnne Rice of Gainesville; stepdaughter, Michelle Rice of Plano, Texas; brothers, Robert O. Rice of Byron, N.Y., William Rice and Michael Rice, both of Gainesville; sisters, Mabel Evans of Westminster, S.C., Betty Rice Woodard and Patsy Walker, both of Gainesville, and Margaret Campbell of Seneca, S.C.; and three grandchildren. Services are to be held at a later date with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
