More detail on this person: Hallieford - Robert Gerald (Jerry) Ramsey, Sr., age 77, passed away at his home in Hallieford, VA on February 1, 2018. He was born in Norfolk, VA on March 22, 1940 to the late Harry E. Ramsey, Sr. and Kathleen S. Ramsey. In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his wife Jahn Thomas Ramsey. Survivors include a son Robert G. Ramsey, Jr. and his wife Rhonda Hudgins Ramsey of Mathews, VA and a daughter Elizabeth Jahn Ramsey of Norfolk; two grandchildren (who he adored) Abigail Jahn Ramsey and Jackson Turpin Ramsey of Mathews, brothers Dr. Harry E. Ramsey, Jr. and his wife Mary Lyall of Norfolk, and David L. Ramsey and his wife Kate of St. Augustine, FL. He is also survived by a sister Kathleen Marshall and her husband Bill of Norfolk. In addition, Mr. Ramsey will be remembered by many nieces and nephews, extended family, neighbors and friends. Jerry was raised in Ocean View enjoying all things related to the water. He graduated from Granby High School in 1958 and attended Old Dominion College. Mr. Ramsey enlisted in the Army serving 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. During his career he was a member of the Special Forces, Ranger Qualified and earned his wings as an UH-1 helicopter pilot. He received numerous awards and recognition for his service. After leaving active duty, he served in the Virginia National Guard until his retirement. Jerry was an accomplished builder/independent contractor who loved and lived life to the fullest. His family was the most important thing in his life, spending time with his grandchildren, sharing with them his love of the Piankatank and nature. He will always be remembered for his honesty, generosity, kindness, love, friendliness and his strong work ethic. The family will receive friends Monday, February 5th from 6 8 pm at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel in Mathews, VA. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, February 6th at Salem United Methodist Church in Diggs, VA. Burial will follow with military honors at Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jahn Ramsey Scholarship Fund at Bayside Youth Ballet, P. O. Box 217, Topping, VA 23169
