Ramsey July 12,1930- December 19, 2013 Waverly Hall, Georgia- LTC (Ret) Cecil J. Ramsey, age 83, resident of Waverly Hall, Georgia, died on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his residence. Graveside services with full military honors are scheduled at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Hwy 165, Fort Mitchell, Alabama on Friday, December 27, 2013, 1 p.m. with John Spencer officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Sines, Jim Crowder, Bill Fielder, Ron Ramsey, Don Ramsey, and Larry Johnson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, December 26 from 4:00pm to 6pm. LTC Ramsey, son of the late Fred Ramsey and Connie Storey Ramsey, was born July 12, 1930 in St. Joseph, Louisiana. He resided in Natchez, Mississippi and then later served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for over 24 years. During his distinguished military career, LTC Ramsey served in Vietnam and many other military campaigns. For exemplary service he received the Air Medal w/1-25th OLC; Bronze Star w/1OLC; Meritorious Service Medal; Purple Heart; Army Commendation; Senior Army Aviator Badge; and Vietnam Service Medal. After retirement from the military, he worked many years and retired from Civil Service at Fort Benning. LTC Ramsey loved to hunt deer, and drive to Colorado for many years of elk hunting. He was Past President and life-time member of the Army Otter-Caribou Association. LTC Ramsey was a TAC Officer of OCS 2- 1957 and was later asked to join them on all their class reunions, which was quite an honor for him. He was preceded in death by a beloved brother, Fred Ramsey. LTC Ramsey is survived by his wife, Lucile Ramsey; a son, Joe Ramsey; a daughter, Sheila Salter; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathlene Ramsey; nephews, Ron Ramsey and Don Ramsey; cousin, Walter Claire; step-son, Steve Helms; step-daughter, Sharon Sherard; other relatives and friends. Flower donations will be accepted, but in lieu of flowers donations can be also be made in his memory to The Infantry Museum, Fort Benning, Georgia.
