Ropelewski, an aviation journalist, died Saturday after a heart attack. He was 54. A public affairs official with the Federal Aviation Administration, Mr. Ropelewski had served as editor in chief of Interavia magazine from 1992 to 1996. He was senior editor of Armed Forces Journal from 1988 to 1990 and then joined Jane's Information Group in London, where he was group publishing director until 1992. Mr. Ropelewski spent 18 years in various jobs at Aviation Week and Space Technology magazine, including stints as managing editor and bureau chief in Paris, Washington, and Los Angeles. Earlier he had worked as a spokesman for Pacific Southwest Airlines. A former Marine Corps aviator, Mr. Ropelewski was one of only two journalists ever allowed to fly the SR-71 Blackbird spy plan
