More detail on this person: Christopher James Riley Anchorage Daily News July 25, 1993 Anchorage resident Christopher James Riley, 43, died July 23 at home surrounded by family after a courageous, eight-year battle with cancer. A memorial service was at All Saints Episcopal Church, F Street and Eighth Avenue, with Father James Basinger officiating. Graveside services and burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville, Ala. Mr. Riley was born Aug. 16, 1949, in Southampton, N.Y., to Jim and Ruth Riley. His youth was spent traveling extensively as the son of a naval officer. In 1969, Mr. Riley enlisted in the U.S. Army, attended officers' candidate school and was assigned to B Troop, 7|17th Cavalry. He was an airborne ranger who, after flight training, served two tours in Vietnam flying Cobra gunships. After leaving the Army in 1972, Mr. Riley spent eight years as a manufacturer's representative based out of Chicago. His love of aviation led him back to flying. In 1980, he began working as a contract pilot for Derazona Air Services in Jakarta, Indonesia. Following his stint with Derazona, Mr. Riley flew for Papillion Helicopters of Hanalei, Hawaii, in 1983, Air Logistics of Alaska in 1984, and Arabian Helicopters from 1984 to 1989. In 1989, Mr. Riley began working for ERA Aviation and became a Bell 412 captain flying the North Slope of Alaska. In 1992, he became director of industrial safety and environmental management with ERA. Mr. Riley is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Anchorage; his sons, Christopher and Geoffry of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and father, Jim of Anchorage. He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth, and sister, Patricia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to All Saints Episcopal Church, Box 100686, Anchorage 99510.
