More detail on this person: READ, WILLIAM H., "US Army Retired Major" 84, passed away peacefully in his Fern Park home surrounded by his family. Dad was born in Detroit, MI on Nov 5, 1926.

He is preceded in death by' Evelyn 'Dot" Read in 2001 and his daughter, Susan "Susie" Young in 2010. He is survived by his children, Rusty Read of Winter Park and Sally Romano of Chuluota; six grandchildren, Chris Tyrrell, Christy Tyrrell, Scott Young, Travis Young, JJ Romano, Nick Romano; and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way. Dad enlisted in the US Navy Reserve in 1944 where he spent 2 years. Dad took a short break while he pursued the real estate 'market where he quickly became a successful land developer. In 1952 he continued his military career and joined the US Army Reserve as an' enlisted soldier. In 1954 he joined the Orlando Police Dept and became a Motorcycle Officer until 1956, This is where he met my Mom after she had been involved in an auto accident. He left the Orlando Police Dept to further his military career as a Commissioned Officer. During this time he continued to pursue a business in real estate and land developing. While in the US Army he served 2 tours as an Aviator in Vietnam from- 1966 to 1970. In 1986 he retired with the rank of Major. Full Military Honors will be provided by the US Army at V'{oodlawn Memorial. Park. Our Dad was best known by family and friends as, "Pepa or Captain BiII."Dad had a love for sailing and gojng to Las Vegas. Dad was in AA for 34 years and mentored many. Forever etched in our hearts will be the image of our Dad wearing his billa cap and a shirt with 2 pockets; Until we meet again... Chaplain Chris Whaley will be officiating. Service will be held. at National Cremation Society, 7565 Red Bug Lake Rd in Oviedo,' with Visitation on Friday, July 8, 2011·from 5 to 8 pm. Service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 10 a.m. with interment following at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, FL.
