More detail on this person: Robert Samuel Springer, 66, passed away Monday, Jan.31, 2005, in Fort Worth. Memorial service: 2pm Saturday at Acton United Methodist Church in Acton, Texas. Mr. Springer was born Aug.31, 1938 in Chicago, Ill. to Robert and Loraine Wells Springer. He attended South Short High School in Chicago and received an Associate of Arts degree from Miami Dade Community College.

At 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1960. He continued his military service with the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam for which he was awarded, among other medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star with one oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with valor device, the Air Medal with valor device and numerals 39. He retired from the Army in 1977 with the rank of CW3.

Following military service, he turned a hobby into a profession, becoming a master clockmaker and acquiring the "Clock Doc" nickname from an article published in the Miami Herald. He restored antique clocks for several years until he returned to flying with Miami Helicopter.

He was a member of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, The Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and Acton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of eight years, Ann Delbridge Springer of Granbury, his sister Diane Sandine and niece and nephew DeAnna and Rex Sandine of the Chicago area. You can view and sign the guest book at: www.Star-Telegram.com/obituaries

Bob retired from the army as a W-3, Awards include 2 DFC's, 39 Air medals, plus one with V, 2 Bronze stars, 1 purple heart, Army comendation medal with V, Senior aviator wings. He belonged to the DFC society and the Disabled american vets.

Bob was cremated and will be buried in Arlington Nat'l cemetary in Va. in june
