More detail on this person: Austin "Rob" Smith, Jr. Austin "Rob" Smith, Jr., 70, a 12-year resident of Lacey, Washington, died of natural causes while at home on August 8, 2007. He was born on August 6, 1937 to Austin and Vivian Smith. Rob graduated from Halliday High School in 1955 and from the University of North Dakota in 1959. In September of 1957 he married Amanda Frank, who survives. From 1959 to to 1965, Rob was a helicopter pilot in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. After his military service, he became a pilot for United Airlines. His interests included golf, bonsai, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. In addition to his wife, Amanda, Rob is survived by his son, Austin R. "Rob" Smith III, of Olympia, Washington; three daughters, Leslie Smith (Zachary), of Puyallup, Washington, Lynn Manning (Steve), of Federal Way, Washington, and Lisa Kraft (Michael), of Seattle, Washington; sister, Sheila Wald; and seven grandchildren,Brenden, Nicholas, Ian, Austin, Connor, Heather, and Lucas. A celebration of Rob's life will be held at his son Rob's house on Sunday, August 12, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. For more information, call (360) 754-2800. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2007, at the Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th Street, Kent, Washington, 98042.
