More detail on this person: Richard Andrew
Sharpe, 67, was born in New York, New York on
January 22, 1947 and passed away in Los Angeles,
California on November 5, 2014. Richard was
previously a Police Officer for the Los Angeles
Police Department for 30 years and flew
helicopters in their Air Support Division. He
retired from the LAPD in 2000. Richard proudly
served his country in the United States Army and
was given an Honorable Discharge, and was a long
time member of the National Guard.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Patricia
E. Sharpe of Downey, his daughter, Christine
(Paul) Yoon of Downey, Stephen (Natasha) Sharpe
of Downey, John Eric Sharpe of Downey, Carolyn
(Samuel) Barnes of Grand Terrace, CA and Colleen
Sharpe of Salt Lake City, UT. He also leaves his
grandchildren, Caitlyn and Addison Yoon and Julia
and Nicholas Barnes, along with his brother,
Alfred Sharpe of Fort Mojave, AZ and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Officer Richard Sharpe who worked most of his
career in Air Support Division passed away
yesterday from complications resulting from an ATV
roll over. He suffered several broken ribs and
when they removed a tube from his lung, a blood
clot broke off and lodged in his heart. He was
improving and was supposed to return home but
passed away unexpectedly. Richard and I
graduated from the same High School class in
1965.
Services for Officer Sharpe will be as follows:
Visitation on Nov 13, 5-9 pm at First Baptist
Church of Downey, 8348 E 3rd St, Downey (Calif).
Funeral mass on Nov 14, 1030 am at Our Lady of
Perpetual Help Church, 10727 Downey Ave,
Downey. Interment will be at Riverside National
Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, Calif.,
however graveside services have not yet been
scheduled, but should be posted on the website of
Risher Mortuary & Cremation Services, as is all
the above information.
For those who did not know Richard, he was the
kind of guy whom everybody liked. After we
graduated from high school we went off to Vietnam
as many of us did in those days. Richard flew
helicopters over there, and did so most of his
career on the L.A.P.D. Just seems ironic to me
that after all those years flying helicopters, it
was an ATV that took him. Like you said Mike, we
just never know.
