More detail on this person: Mr William Ellis Savedge Jr, 55 WILLIAM ELLIS SAVEDGE JR. Daily Press (Newport News, VA) - Saturday, July 27, 2002 William Ellis Savedge Jr., 55, passed away at home on Thursday, July 25, 2002. A native of Surry County, he had been a Newport News resident for 33 years. Mr. Savedge served his country in the Vietnam War, as a helicopter pilot for the 101st Airborne Division. He received several medals including the Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with "V" Device. He later retired from McKesson General Medical, as a Corporate Operations manager, after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot's Association, and the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation. Mr. Savedge was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Savedge Chaffin of Winnsboro, Texas. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Cindy O. Savedge; daughter, Jeanette Savedge DellaVedova and her husband, Capt. Joseph DellaVedova, of Arlington; father, William Ellis Savedge Sr. and his wife, Helen, of Surry County; two sisters, Ellie Browner and her husband, Dr. Norman Browner, of Miami, Fla., and Ramona Hoyt of Chesapeake; brother, Randolph Savedge and his wife, Renee, also of Surry County; three nieces, Diana Lietner of Hollywood, Fla., Jennifer Hoyt of Bluefield, W.Va., and Delaney Savedge of Surry County; two grand-nieces, Lauryn Lietner and Katrina Lietner; two nephews, Brian Brock of Raleigh, N.C., and Wade Brock of Virginia Beach and his sister-in-law, Marsha Brock and her husband, Lewis, of Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at noon on Monday at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Larry E. Adams. Burial will follow in Moore's Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery in Surry County. Memorial donations may be made to the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot's Association, 825 Severn Ave., Peter O. Knight Airport, Tampa, FL 33606, or to the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation, 506 Pleasant Road, Hampton, GA 30228.
