Danny Lee Salin Danny Lee Salin, 43, of Fort Collins died on Tuesday, April 16, 1991, in a helicopter accident in Bolivia, South America. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Burial will be conducted at Resthaven Memory Gardens with military rites by the VFW, DAV and the American Legion. The Reverend Bruce Bergquist will officiate. Mr. Salin was born Nov. 15, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa. He Married Carolyn Olney on June 3, 1967. He came to Fort Collins from Denver in 1976. He married Marilynn Borrego Nov. 18, 1978. He attended Northwest Missouri State College in Marysville, MO, and volunteered for service in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam as a Captain and helicopter pilot. He served with Company A, 158th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. Where he gained the admiration of his fellow "Ghost Riders." He was given the callsign "Dog" as a mark of acceptance and honor. Mr. Salin was employed as a helicopter pilot for Geo-Seis Helicopters Inc., of Fort Collins. He belonged to the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Fort Collins and Timothy's Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a Flight for Life helicopter pilot, an avid outdoorsman and a member of the VFW. Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Salin and Cori Salin of Fort Collins; his mother, Juanita Salin; two sisters, Karen Hoden and Eileen Taylor; and a brother, LaVern Salin, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and step-son, Derek Durgain of Laramie, Wyoming. Memorial contributions may be made to Flight for Life, Saint Anthony's Hospital, Denver, in care of Reager Funeral home & Crematory
