More detail on this person: Jensen Beach, FLorida: Major William H. "Bill" Shaw, 85, (U.S.A.R.) passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 in Jensen Beach, FL under the tender loving care of his caregivers.

He was born on April 1, 1931 in Shamokin, PA to Webster and Cecilia (Comer) Shaw. He is of the Catholic faith.

Mr. Shaw had a very distinguished career in the United States Army. He proudly served in the Korean conflict as a tank crewman until hostiles terminated; he was then assigned as a gunner 90 mm cannon Philadelphia PA he then converted to Nike Missiles.

In 1956, he attended helicopter training at Fort Rucker Alabama and graduated in March [as a warrant officer], and assigned to Fort Sill, OK.

In 1958 he transferred to Fort Belvoir, VA and further assigned to the Presidential helicopter unit, transporting then President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

In 1962, he departed the unit while supporting President John F. Kennedy for one year, flying helicopters in Vietnam, and during that tour he was promoted to 1st Lt.

In 1963, he returned to the Presidential unit, prior to the assassination and after that supported Lyndon B. Johnson, until returning to Vietnam in 1967 for his second tour.

In 1968, once again he returned to the Presidential unit, once again flying LBJ. In 1969, he supported President Nixon and retired with the grade of Major in 1973.

From 1973 to 1991 he was a corporate pilot for IBM for 18 years, until his retirement in 1991.

From 1991 to 1996, he served as the President of corporation CAPA opposing a large airport west of Palm City, FL.

From 1992 to 2002, he piloted a leer jet for a local businessman in Stuart, FL. From 1996 to 2008 he served as the Commander of Stuart VFW Post 4194 and increased their net assets to $70,000.00.

His awards included the Legion of Merit, Air Metal w/21 Oak Leaf Clusters, he was a Master Army Aviator, Eisenhower and Kennedy Presidential Service Badges, KSM, VSM, GCM, NDSM, and AFRM. He was the only pilot to fly four presidents. He also served as a City Councilman in Danbury CT.

William is survived by his loving wife Elsie Sanguineti-Shaw of Port St. Lucie, FL; his beloved children Rita Shaw Hold (Ralph) of Merritt Island, FL, William J. Shaw (Colleen) of New York and Michael Shaw of TX; four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to the nurses at the VA Hospital and Treasure Coast Hospice for thoughtfully caring for Bill; and a heart felt thank you to the Schultz family, Krystyna, Stephen and Renata Wilk for over 2 years of wonderful and loving care of William.

A prayer service will be celebrated in the chapel of Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Stuart Chapel, 961 S. Kanner Highway, Stuart, FL 34994, on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 10:30 am visitation and 11:30 memorial mass with Fr. Jack Barrow officiating followed by a internment at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449 at 1:45 PM with full military honors presented by the United States Army.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations and gifts in loving memory of Bill can be made to the VFW Post 4194, 2464 SE Veterans Ave, Stuart, FL 34994 or Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.
