October 11, 1937 May 3, 2012 Donald E. Sullivan,
74, of Bellefonte, took his flight to Heaven on
May 3, 2012. Born in Fayetteville, he was a son of
the late Samuel E. Sullivan and Goldie McNew
Sullivan. On Sept. 11, 1971, he married the former
Rachel Myers, who survives at home. The Sullivans
lived in Alaska and Washington State for 17 years.
He graduated from Brownsville High School and
received a BS degree from California College.
Donald was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam (U.S.
Army Retired). For his service, he received the
Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, and
various air medals. In his civilian life, he was a
helicopter pilot and a letter carrier for the
United States Post Office. Donald was an avid
reader. He loved to work in his shop, and loved
the outdoors. He loved Penn State football and was
a Steeler's fan. He served as Newburg Borough
Councilman for five years. In addition to his
wife, he is survived by a daughter, Holly L.
Montarsi (Craig), of Lamar; a son, Michael E.
Sullivan (Sherry), of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; a
sister, Suzy Rupp (Robert), of Kentucky; and
nephews, John Rupp and Greg Rupp, of Kentucky,
and Greg Sullivan, Chris Sullivan, and Jeremy
Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents;
a step-brother, Jerry Sullivan; and his
step-mother, Margarite Sullivan. A memorial
service, with full military honors, was held May
7, 2012, at New Beginnings Christian Outreach
Church in Bellefonte. Pastor Dan Fox officiated at
the service.
