More detail on this person: Leroy (Roy) Spivey was born in 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio during the recovery period from the Great Depression. Roy passed away at his home on March 22, 2018. Roy spent his childhood there with his mother, father, two brothers, and a sister. He journeyed away from the city for summers to Melbourne, Florida and was surrounded by a loving group of aunts, uncles, and cousins. While still in Cleveland, Roy graduated from East Tech High School and after graduation worked several jobs including spinning records for the Moondog Alan Freed on Cleveland's WJW radio station. Roy played semi-pro baseball in the Cleveland area and was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He played for both the Dodgers and the Yankees in the minor leagues for a couple years. With little hope of a successful career in baseball, Roy enlisted in the Army and left Cleveland for good. Roy was a renaissance man and his multiple talents led to a life well lived. In 2001 Roy was persuaded to take his first cruise and never looked back. He formed a travel group called "The Bucket List Group" and together, they traveled the world. Roy is survived by his wife Bettie and children, Ben (Abby), Sean (Angie), Shannon (Youssef), Nicky (Charles), and Rodney (Tammie); 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife Elisabeth Traub and their daughter, Helga. Also deceased are his mother, Arizona; father, Calvin; brothers, James and Calvin; and sister Helen.
