More detail on this person: Walter Burton Stewart, 85, was called home by his Lord and Savior on August 6, 2015. His family was near him to send him off with love. Walt joyfully joined Millie, his wife of 60 years, who predeceased him in January 2015. He is survived by three children, Katherine Stewart, Orange Park, FL; Kenneth Stewart, Jacksonville, FL; and Kristine Pritchard (Dayne), Orange Park, FL, five grandchildren, Kenneth Stewart, Lena Mansour, Michael Toone, Peyton Pritchard, and Delaney Pritchard, and one brother, Donald Stewart. Walt earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nebraska. He served for 22 years in the U.S. Army as an engineer and aviator. Walt took great pride in his service as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army, he opened a bicycle shop in Aberdeen, Maryland before moving his family to Orange Park, where he worked for American Technical Ceramics. He was a dedicated volunteer for Clay County Habitat for Humanity for many years, and a longtime member of Orange Park United Methodist Church, where he served in numerous positions. Walt was loved greatly by his family and many friends and was well-known for his ability to repair or build anything. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Haven Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials to be made to Clay County Habitat for Humanity. On Monday, August 10, at 2:00 pm, family and friends will celebrate his life at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Boulevard, Orange Park, FL with Rev. Pearl Boles officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
