More detail on this person: Aloysius Paul Sarnecki Obituaries San Antonio Express-News (TX) - Tuesday, January 1, 2008 Aloysius Paul Sarnecki, Col. (retired) US ARMY Al was born May 16th, 1927 in East Chicago, Indiana the 7th child of eleven to Jacob and Mary Sarnecki. Al met and married the love of his life, Ruth Bierschwale, at Fort Riley, Kansas, in 1953. They spent fifty four wonderful years together and had three children: Pamela, Timothy, and Philip. They lived many places throughout the country and in Europe while raising their family. They ultimately retired and settled in Fredericksburg in 1993. His birth name, Aloysius means "warrior" and in his eighty years of life Al lived up to that name. He proudly served his country in WWII with the Merchant Marines, and spent two tours in Vietnam as a Helicopter pilot. In addition, after 27 years of Active duty, he battled blindness, and four bouts of cancer, beating the odds and winning every single time. Ultimately, he lost his last and final battle to pulmonary complications on Dec 26th. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, daughter Pam and her husband Gino Giannotti, and son, Philip and his wife, Tracie. There are four grandchildren, Cara Giannotti, Lia Giannotti, Keelan Sarnecki, and Maddisen Sarnecki. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy who died in 2005. Funeral services for Al Sarnecki will be held on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, with Rev. Jay Grave officiating. Graveside services and Interment will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 P. M. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas with full military honors accorded by the United States Army. You may make memorial contributions in Al's memory to: Hill Country Memorial Hospital; Zion Lutheran Church; or to Fisher House. Organist: Annabelle Wilkinson, Soloist: Helen Rode.
