The family will be at 600 Pee Dee Ave., Apt. C, Albemarle. Graveside service will be at Stanly Gardens of Memory Mausoleum at 4 PM on Friday, September 10. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. Born in Mecklenburg County on October 06, 1944, he was the son of the late James Howard Smith and the late Mildred Pauline Baker Smith. He was a butcher and served in the US Army during Vietnam. He was a decorated veteran with 3 Purple Hearts and a retired helicopter pilot with a group known as the Razorbacks. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his daughters, Sydna Coley and fiance' Greg Jordan, and Brooke Smith, all of Albemarle; sister, Martha Hestikind of Locust; and granddaughters, Rhianna Coley and Savannah Gainey, both of Albemarle.
