More detail on this person: LTC (Ret) Darwin "Dar" Schuett LTC (Ret) Darwin "Dar" Schuett was born in Primghar; O'Brien County, Iowa on Monday; November 26, 1928. He was the son of Leo and Eva (Bell) Schuett, he graduated from Hartley High School in 1946. He joined the Iowa State Guard in 1944 and enlisted in the U. S. Army in June 1947, retiring in February 1971, after completing twenty-six years of patriotic and honorable service. LTC Darwin Schuett was awarded the following military badges and citations: Combat Infantry Badge 2nd award, Master Parachutist badge, Master Army Aviator badge, Air Medal with 4 Oak leaf clusters, Soldiers Medal, Korean Service Medal with 4 bronze stars, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm leaf Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal. Known as "Colonel" by all his friends, Dar was a well-respected car salesman at Gillespie Pontiac/Oldsmobile in Boone, Iowa. He was also a member of the following organizations: ZA-GA-ZIG Shiners; Masons, Mount Olive Lodge #79 AF&AM; Elk's; VFW; American Legion, 40 & 8 Army Association; and Camp Dodge Investment Club. He loved gardening, and his property was a sanctuary for all of God's critters. ---------- LTC (Ret) Darwin "Dar" Schuett, age 81, passed away on on December 28, 2009 at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa where he had resided since October of this year. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife Elsie (Kozak) Schuett of Boone; 2 sons Robert Schuett and wife Doreen of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Richard Schuett and wife Denise of Ankeny, Iowa; 4 daughters Dona Koelling and husband Gary of Mundelein, Illinois, Dana Deacon and husband Graham of Greensboro, North Carolina, Lisa Moe-Schuett of Landis, North Carolina, and Barbara Picard and husband Ed of Arvada, Colorado; 6 grandchildren; Brian Schuett of Myrtle Beach, North Carolina, Ryan Schuett of Charlottesville, Virginia, Neal Schuett and wife Melissa of Iowa City, Iowa, Timothy Schuett of Iowa City, Iowa, Scott Schuett of Charlottesville, Virginia and Matthew Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa; a great-grandson, Michael Schuett of Myrtle Beach, North Carolina; 3 brothers Clayton Schuett and wife Billie of Spirit Lake, Iowa, John Schuett and wife Becky of Mesa, Arizona, and Merle Schuett and wife Linda of Sheldon, Iowa; and 2 sisters Margaret Grimberg and husband Murl of Paullina, Iowa and Shirley Gibbs/Schuett and Chuck Nigh of Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Eva (Belle) Schuett of Sheldon, Iowa, and daughter, Terry (Faulkner) Van Slyke of Arvada, Colorado. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday; January 1, 2010 at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone, Iowa with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue on Saturday morning at the Augustana Lutheran Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Funeral services will begin at: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday; January 2, 2010 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastors Daniel Solomon and Karen Berg officiating. Interment with full military honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the Boone Area Humane Society or Camp Dodge Gold Star Museum, Camp Dodge, Johnston, Iowa 50131 c/o Russ Bierl. The Stark~Welin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
