More detail on this person: FLEMINGSBURG _ "The jump was a go" on Dec. 23, 2018, for Chief Warrant Officer 4 Retired Elbert Eugene (Gene) Staggs, who passed away after a long illness, leaving this TDY on Earth for his permanent duty station in Heaven. He was born Dec. 4, 1943 in Fleming County. He joined the Army after high school and proudly served his country as a member of the US Special Forces. His became a pilot which was a lifelong dream for him, his tour of duty was 26 years. During his service to his country, he earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and numerous other medals and citations. After retiring, Florida sunshine called him to golfing and fishing. Gene is survived by his loving wife Barbara; and three children, Crystal Koho of Vernon, Texas, Shawn Neeley of Florence and Kevin Kirkman of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; four grandchildren, Joey, Stephanie, Grant and Nora; two great-grandchildren, Brody and Lilianna; three siblings Robert (Juanita) Staggs, Marilyn Holt of Maysville and Debbie Arrasmith; sister-in-law, Letha Gallagher, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Elbert; mother, Edna; sister, Ruby Fryman; brother, Raymond; and grandson, Zak Koho.
