More detail on this person: Jerry Ray Sweitzer, Major USA (RET) Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Jerry Ray Sweitzer, Major USA(RET), 64, of Enterprise, AL, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL, following a brief illness. Born June 3, 1945, in Westernport, MD, he is the son of the late Millard Jerry and Helen Marie (Durst) Sweitzer. Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. G. Lance Hogan officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Saturday, August 22nd, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Searcy Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the VFW Foundation, 406 West 34th Street, Suite 514, Kansas City, MO 64111. Mr. Sweitzer was a veteran and retired from the US Army, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired in December 2008 after 23 years of civil service at Ft. Rucker's Directorate of Combat Development where he served as an aviation specialist developing plans for improving and modernizing the Army's helicopter programs. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda (Kelley) Sweitzer of Enterprise; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Amy Sweitzer, Versailles, KY; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Ted Sowle, Parkville, MO; sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Andrew Fry, Henderson, NV; brother, Jim Sweitzer, Mt Savage, MD; sister-in-law, Mary Sweitzer, Ellerslie, MD; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John C. and Ruth Kelley, Coffee Springs; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Teresa Kelley, Coffee Springs; grandchildren: Owen, Lane, and Lorelei Sweitzer, Versailles, KY; Ella, Lily, and Lila Sowle, Parkville, MO; two nephews, one niece, one great-ne
