More detail on this person: WARRINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA - Lt. Col. (ret) Robert G. Shain (Bob) passed away Sunday, April 29 2012 at Doylestown Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born in Iowa City, IA on Dec 2, 1934, Bob was a 1959 graduate of the Military Academy at West Point. He served in the US Army for 20 years as an infantry officer as well as a fixed-wing and helicopter pilot. He completed 2 tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded the Legion of Merit, 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 2 Bronze Stars, 27 Air Medals with V for valor, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnamese Medal of Honor & Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He served as commander of the Executive Flight Detachment and pilot of Presidents Nixon and Ford's helicopter, Army One, from 1973 to 1976. Following his retirement he enjoyed a long professional career in the aeronautics industry.

Bob was an active supporter of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Military Officers Association. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sherry, three children Cynthia Shain (Dave Hemminger), Stephanie Shain (Adam Roberts), and Michael Shain. He is and always will be the adored Papa of Bella, Jason, & Mia. He is also survived by sister in law, Nancy Shain and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. EK Shain and an older brother Air Force Maj. E. Rox Shain.

His family will receive friends at the Varcoe-Thomas Funeral Home, 344 North Main St., Doylestown, PA 18901 from 10:30-11:30am on Wednesday, May 9th. A service will follow at 11:30am.

Burial and funeral honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
