He led a happy childhood in a close-knit family. He was an active and involved youth as an honors student at Melville Senior High School in St. Louis where he played on the basketball, football and track teams and also participated in the drama program and school band. He began his higher education at Kansas City University (UMKC) before leaving for Vietnam, where he served courageously and with distinction as a helicopter pilot during the war, later to pilot his own fixed-wing airplane. After moving to Columbia to attend classes at the University of Missouri, he went on to establish Columbia Billiards on 9th Street. As owner and host, he provided an atmosphere that welcomed anyone and everyone to join the fun. He also went on to open Billiards of Springfield, the Blue Cactus Cafe and Rack & Roll Billiards. What he valued most from his experiences in business were the many strong and lasting friendships that he developed throughout the years with his customers and staff, and the opportunity to have a positive impact on his employees to propel them in life. He was currently in the final stages of remodeling Billiards of Springfield in preparation for its 30th anniversary of operation. Phil was multi-talented, versatile and creative and stayed busy almost every day of his life. When he made time for leisure, he enjoyed golfing with good friends. His most cherished moments, however, were the ones he spent with his family. A warm, generous, deeply caring and patient man, he brought indescribable comfort and stability to his loved ones.He is survived by his wife, Maggie; son, Adam; granddaughter, Kelsey; daughter, Marcie and husband Ian; granddaughter, Daphne; brother, Tom and wife Pat and their large family. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and Hillsdale College.Online condolences for the family may be left at www.parkerfuneralservice.com
