More detail on this person: Joe Travis Stroud, Jr. (Col., US Army, Ret.), passed away unexpectedly at the age of 73 in Sierra Vista, Arizona, his home for over 25 years. Besides entertaining whomever he was around, Joe was an active contributor to the Sierra Vista community, a community he had grown to love during his postings at Fort Huachuca. In addition to building a local business with Phyllis and their employee family, Joe served in positions of public trust, hosted a local education radio show, and served as Cochise County Campaign Manager for its U.S. Congressional representative. Prior to this, Joe served over thirty years in the US Army, achieving the rank of Colonel while inspiring so many of his fellow soldiers along the way. As a Cobra pilot with the 334th Armed Helicopter Company, Joe served multiple tours in Vietnam. Over the past several years, he especially enjoyed traveling to many schools to share his experiences, as well as the experiences of many soldiers whom he considered heroes, with students of all ages. Those who will continue to carry on wonderful memories of Joe include his exceptionally loving wife, Phyllis; his adoring children, Audra, Travis, Lesley, and Ashlei; his beautiful grandchildren, Nicole, Christian, Kendrick, Courtney, Kate, Haleigh, and Hayden; his beloved sister, Wanda; as well as many other family and friends. Friends and family are invited to remember and to celebrate Joe at a Memorial Service being held on Monday, August 27th, at 10 a.m. at New Jerusalem Community Church located at 479 West Wilcox Drive, Sierra Vista, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, you may make a charitable contribution to the Military Order of the Purple Heart Fort Lowell Chapter 442, Tucson, Arizona, or Real Wishes Foundation of Sierra Vista.
