More detail on this person: Col. Morris "Butch" Steenson Col. Morris "Butch" Steenson, age 69, died at Russellville Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, because of complications following surgery. He was born April 18, 1938, in Town Creek, Ala., to the late Charlie and Mabel Steenson. Upon graduation from Florence State Teachers College (UNA), he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, retiring as a colonel after 27 years of service. His distinguished career included two tours in Vietnam, where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Medal for Valor. After retiring from active military service and returning to Tuscumbia, he continued to serve his country and fellow service members as the Veterans Affairs officer for Colbert County for more than ten years advocating the needs of veterans of Colbert County.
